Awesome. Fast-paced, funny, and fun to speculate on. The writing feels a little juvenile at times (and don't laugh because writing juvenile fictions doesn't mean you can't write like a fuckin' poet (much as I am doing this very moment)), but the characters are well-developed and extremely likable, plus I think it's a fresh take on the Greek myths.
Another great collection of American pulp fiction. Typically, the word "pulp" connotes "low-brow" literature, but there's some serious literary excellence contained in these pages. My favorites: definitely Jim Thompson & Patricia Highsmith. Both novels function as compelling character studies of the criminal mind, and they succeed in their endeavors just as much as any work of "high" literature. I fully recommend this book.
Hunted is the 5th book in the House of NIght series. I love these books. This seires is like a spin off of Twlight and Harry Potter combined. It reminds me of Harry Potter because its about a girl who gets "marked" to be a vampire and she has to go away to vampire school and it reminds me of Twilight because of the love story. Although Zoey has this issue where she seems to always fall in love more than one person. The style of the book is quick paced and leaves the reader wanting more at each of the books' endings. Each book ends in the middle of a confliting event and starts exactly where the book left off. So in five books only about a year in half's worth of time passed.
I read this as a teenager and thought the story was silly... if the characters knew they were perfect for each other, why can't they get together. I read it a second time coming out of college and enjoyed it much more. At that point, I had lived in Spain for a bit and had a bit more relationship experience. I really liked the part talking about swimming the rafts in San Sebastian... they're still there and you can still do it although it got a little scary because the water was so cold it had me doubting myself if I could make it.
This graphic novel has an interesting enough story - a cautionary tale about heroin use wrapped up in a fight between queens Mab and Titiana - but for me the best thing about this book are the illustrations which are absolutely beautiful and amazing.
