Ok, I just picked this book up today to browse through it. I was hooked immediately and finished it today. It was painful, but wonderful and full of lessons. I'm sad in a way that I read it so fast, but I had no choice, I couldn't get it out of my head or my hands.
This was a great book set in a dystopian future where a significant portion of the world's population is competing to win an online virtual reality contest; and oddly enough, I really couldn't put it down. I'm not a video-game person at all, but this book was still very interesting (maybe this was partially due to the 80's pop culture references). The only draw-back, is that the book was a little too predictable.
This book was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I liked watching the movie when I was younger ( I am not sure which version, there are a few.) Jane is so likeble, the forgotten little girl with misfortune greeting her at every turn. Her enemies so full of guile and self righteousness that it is impossible to like them in the slightest. I get lost in the beautiful language of the book, and find myself wanting to go back to 19th century England, just so I could speak like that and not be looked at like I was insane.
I just finished school and am in my first job. Unfortunately, I am also a total n00b at knowing how to allocate my money (invest? save for retirement? pay off my student loans first? etc.). This book so far has been invaluable for newbies like me. Also very accessibly written.
